The Superiority and Benefits of Aluminium French Doors
Are you considering a door upgrade for your home? If so, let's talk about French doors, specifically Aluminium French doors. French doors are renowned for their elegance and sophistication, featuring glass panels extending from top to bottom. This unique blend of beauty and functionality sets them apart from other door types.
An Eye-Catching Appeal
One of French doors' most striking features is their visual appeal. They add a simple yet elegant charm and sophistication to any home. The large glass panels allow maximum light entrance, giving any room an open, airy feel. This feature not only brightens up your space but also creates an illusion of more space, making your rooms feel larger and more expansive.
Functional and Practical Design
Apart from their aesthetic allure, French doors are also highly functional. They provide a seamless transition between the interior and exterior of your home, effectively merging your indoor and outdoor spaces. This makes them perfect for garden-facing rooms or for leading out onto a patio or balcony. They also offer a practical solution for rooms that require more light or an additional entry point.
Energy Efficiency
French doors are not just about aesthetics and functionality; they also contribute to energy efficiency. In the summer, they allow fresh air to flow through the house, while in the winter, they let in plenty of natural light while keeping cold air out. This can help regulate indoor temperatures and reduce reliance on artificial lighting and air conditioning.
Versatility with Aluminium
Another advantage of French doors is their versatility. They can be manufactured from a variety of materials to meet diverse needs and preferences. If you prefer the modern sleekness of metal, then Aluminium French doors are for you. They offer the durability of metal while maintaining the classic appeal of traditional French doors. Moreover, Aluminium French doors can complement any architectural style, from traditional to contemporary, making them a popular choice for many homeowners and architects.
The Intriguing History of French Doors
Contrary to what their name implies, French doors did not originate in France. Their roots can be traced back to 17th-century Italy, during the Renaissance period that prized light and architectural symmetry - principles embodied by French doors.
The term "French doors" was coined following France's victory over Italy in the late 16th century, which led to the adoption of various Italian influences, including the design concept of these doors.
Originally, French doors served as wooden entrances to balconies. Over time, their use broadened and they began to appear in living rooms, kitchens, and offices. Today, they are made from a variety of materials including wood, aluminium, and uPVC, catering to diverse aesthetic and functional needs.
Despite their long history, French doors remain popular in modern architecture. They offer a seamless transition between indoor and outdoor spaces, maximise natural light, and provide energy efficiency, making them a timeless and versatile choice for any home.
Should French doors open in or out?
French doors can open either inwards or outwards. Most investors choose doors that open out. Currently, 9 out of 10 installations performed by Smart Vision Systems are the installations of outwards opening doors. The reason behind that is practical. Doors that open outwards don’t take space in the room, and thus are more convenient. They perfectly fit each room, regardless of its dimensions and layout. They also allow us to create a wide and comfortable passage into the patio or garden, which offers the comfort of an everyday use of the space.
The doors are usually complemented with a low aluminium doorstep (between 14 and 20 mm high). Wide openings together with an accessible doorstep create an easy-to-use entrance for little children, seniors and wheelchair users.
How to choose French doors?
Choosing French doors may not be easy. The vast variety of choices is definitely confusing. What to consider while selecting French doors for your home? For sure, you need to think about the space you have. When the opening is above 3000 mm on the width it is better to choose sliding doors instead of French doors. The latter will be more comfortable to use with larger surfaces and will add more light into the room.
The second thing to consider is the material. Selecting the right material type depends on your own personal taste, the style of your home and the place the doors will be used. As far as external doors are concerned, you could opt for uPVC doors for lower cost, wooden French doors for a classic look or aluminium doors for a more modern look and sufficient thermal insulation.
Don’t forget that the doors should complement your decor. Minimalist, contemporary style matches well with single panel French doors, whereas classic decor may require hardwood six-pane doors. The doors are available in different colours, so choosing the ones that perfectly complement your décor shouldn’t take long.
